Complexity Inertia

I had a notion that I would make bread-dough this morning.  It didn’t happen.  Bread making is new to me and the process needs a degree of thought.  In a half-wakened state and without caffeine in my bloodstream, the prospect on having to concentrate on measuring ingredients, preparing yeast and getting my hands sticky for at least 10 minutes, was beyond my mental abilities for first thing in the morning.

But stretching exercises were accomplished.  The meters in the house were read.  The chicken-shed was opened and the hen’s food and water was checked.  And coffee was made.

One lesson learnt, a pre-caffeine morning-routine has to be an activity so familiar and requiring a very low mental capability, that you could literally do it in your sleep.
